Thou art my portion forever,

Great God of all the earth,

So dear to my heart, and precious,

All else is of little worth.

Thou art my portion forever,

I chose Thee in my youth,

I turned from the world and its follies,

To walk in the ways of truth.

Thou art my portion forever,

And then in years mature,

Thou didst crown me with joy and gladness,

And made my hope secure.

Thou art my portion forever,

I have reached the top of life's hill,

On the shady side now am descending,

But thou art with me still.

Thou art my portion forever,

And should I live to be old,

I will lean heavily upon Thee,

And sweetly abide in thy fold.

Thou art my portion forever,

Then death with stern demand,

Cannot affright nor alarm me,

My life is in thy hand.

Thou art my portion forever,

My portion in Heaven at last,

Growing dearer, sweeter and richer,

Then earthly things are past.
