Her mother was Lady Ann Thornburgh, the 15th descendant from William, The Conqueror (William I, King of England). Children of this marriage were Richard, William, Thomas, Robert, Anne, Ellen, and Margaret. William died at Nateby Hall 24 July 1558, and is buried at Furness Abbey. Sixty one years after the Norman Conquest, the religious establishment at Tulketh Castle was moved to Dalton and took the name of the district, Furness Abbey. The Abbey was purchased from the Crown by Sir Thomas Preston along with other estates.

His heir was his second son, William, his eldest son, Laurence, having died. His daughters were Grace, Elizabeth, Ann, Alice, and Dorothy.

She was the daughter of Sir Henry Kigley, a knight of Inchipp, County Lancashire. Richard was a Captain in the Royal Army, and is buried in the North Isle of the Minister at Canterbury. His heir was William Travers.
