Vernon road between the farms of Barton Atchison and James Osburn. (Laws of 1838/39, p. 57). Home on state road from Equality to Mt. Vernon (Public Laws 1839, p. 57). Nominated for Justice of the Peace for Jefferson Co. Jan 6 (p. 116); Feb. 7 (p. 305, Home Journal 1820) Petition from William Casey, Joseph Jordan, and Barton Atchison, county commissioners fro Jeff. Co., making nominations for J.P.(House Journal 1820). Commissioned J.P. Feb. 8, 1821 (exec. Record, 1818-1832 Vol 1, p. 34). Candidate for Co. Commissioner Aug 2, 1824 (Election Returns Vol 5, p 14). Petition for road relocation (Senate Jnal 1839-40 pg. 68). Barton and Prudence were buried at Rentchler Farm Cemetery (Jeff. Co. roads 1875E & 700N). Prudence's stone is still there, but Barton's was broken off and some relatives took it to Kentucky in 1983. Helen obtained info from Jack Story re/ headstone of Barton - "In Memory of Barton Atchison who was born in Maryland March 22, 1775 died November 12, 1847 aged 72 years and 7 months and 20 days." Moved to GA by 1794; to Smith Co. TN by 1810; to Jeff. CO., IL by 1817. Winnefred executrix of estate in 1807. In War of 1812 from TN. Came from Georgia to Moore's Prairie in 1816.
