Notes - Will of Alexander Guill, Sr. dated 9 Jan. 1809. In the name of God, Amen. I, Alexander Guill, of the County of Prince Edward, being through the abundance of mercy and goodness of God, though weak in body, yet sound and perfect understanding and memory, do constitute this my Last Will and Testament, and desire it to be recieved by all as such, which is as follows; to wit: After Barnett Brightwell and Mary, his wife, is satisfyed for maintaining of me as long as I do live in his and her house, and after other just debts is paid--then the balance of my Estate to be divided as follows: Equally between my children, to wit: Nancy, Mary, John, Lucy, Alexander, Jane, Elizabeth, Rhoda, Reuben, Nathaniel, and Josiah; also my grandson, Bird Guill, I wish to have his father’s portion. Cutting him off with nothing my son, Rushel (Russell) I expect is in Eternity, but if he should ever come again I wish him to come in equally with the rest of my children, if not, none of his heirs to come in for one cent of Estate, and I constitute and appoint William Brightwell, Jr. and my son, Josiah Guill, whom I make sole Executors to this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereunto I here set my hand and affixed my seal, this ninth day of January 1800 and nine (1809). At Court held for Prince Edward County, 21 October 1811 this Last Will and Testament of Alexander Guill was presented in Court and proved by the oath of James M.
